Doxycycline Tetracycline Antibiotic for Bacterial Infections
Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic and it effectively treats bacterial infections like; gonorrhea, urinary tract infections, acne, periodontis, chlamydia and many more.
It is also a good treatment medication for pimples, bumps and those acne-lesions usually brought upon by rosacea.
Though Doxycycline is being prescribed for gonorrhea, it may not be effective for treatment of other sexually transmitted diseases. If you have syphilis, better talk to your doctor for the right medication.
Precautions before taking Doxycycline:
Always discuss with your doctor all the information regarding all your health conditions. If you have disorders like liver disease, kidney disease and asthma, it may not be safe for you to take Doxycycline.
Tell your doctor if you are using birth control pills, Doxycyckine may lessen the effectiveness of contraceptive pills. Your doctor may advice you to take other precautionary measures or other forms contraceptive options like using condom and diaphragm.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before taking this medication; there are chemicals that may harm your unborn baby like having tooth discoloration permanently.
Children under 8 years old can not take this drug because they may end up with their teeth discolored for the rest of their lives.
You doctor should also be informed if you have allergies to tetracycline, democycline and minocycline.
Dosage:
Your dosage should be determined by your doctor and do not adjust your own dose at any time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember it; if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose.
Doxycycline should be taken in its full prescription period. You may feel that your condition ahs improved after a few days of taking Doxycyckine but do not stop taking it. Doing so may put you at risk because it may cause unnecessary immunity to antibiotics.
Doxycycline can be taken with or without food; if you get upset stomach, do not take it with an empty stomach.
Always take this drug with a glass full of water; do not take it with milk. Dairy products will make it hard for your body to fully absorb the medication.
Do not break or crush the pill, it should be taken whole. Breaking it may cause the improper distribution of the drug into the system.
If you notice a pill has broken, throw it away immediately so you can avoid accidentally taking it.
